I didn't sign up for this. I never wanted to be a cryptid hunter. I didn’t even believe in cryptids. I always thought they were the stuff of bedtime stories to keep kids quiet and in bed, scared out of their wits, when mom and dad wanted some quality time together.

I was perfectly happy in my boring job as a park ranger. (Not really) But fate had other ideas. When I came face to face with a Bigfoot... everything changed.

Some people are born to greatness, others have it thrust upon them. Then there are still others who trip, fall down a hill backwards, and land face first in a big stinky, steaming, pile of greatness.

I was the latter.

This is the story of that steaming pile that was my life as a cryptid hunter.

Get ready to embark on a wild and hilarious journey with Michael Kelso's "Misadventures of a Cryptid Hunter". This horror-comedy novel follows the unexpected and comically disastrous life of a park ranger turned cryptid hunter. As a skeptic of all things mythical, our protagonist never could have predicted that his life would be turned upside down when he comes face to face with a real-life Bigfoot. Suddenly, he's thrust into a world of cryptids, danger, and hilarity.

Kelso masterfully weaves together horror and humor, delivering a unique and entertaining read for fans of both genres. From the hilarious mishaps and missteps of our clumsy hero, to the spine-tingling encounters with terrifying creatures, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat and laughing out loud.

But it's not all fun and games for our cryptid hunter. As he navigates through this new and dangerous world, he quickly learns that some people are born for greatness, while others just stumble into it - quite literally. Will our hero be able to survive his new calling as a cryptid hunter? And will he ever make it back to his boring park ranger job?

If you love a good scare with a side of laughter and a heap of cryptids, then "Misadventures of a Cryptid Hunter" is a must-read. Kelso's witty writing and unique take on the cryptid trope will have you hooked from the first page. So what are you waiting for? Grab your copy today and join our hero on his hilarious and thrilling adventures.

Praise for this book

What a brilliant book! Not what I expected but better. The misadventures of a sarcastic, almost to a fault, but very likable park ranger turned cryptid hunter. There’s a ton of action and a whole lot of reasons to envy the main character and there are several other characters that are either very likable or trying their hardest to kill him. Sometimes both! A great read even though the author ends on a major cliffhanger but then softens the drop by including a chapter or two of the next book but then ends that with another cliff, albeit smaller to soften the fall. Something tells me that the author and the main character may be very similar but that isn’t a bad thing. Hopefully the next book will be here soon because I am genuinely curious about the characters’ future trials.

I fully recommend you read this story. I stayed up all night to finish it in one reading. I have gotten a little bored with the genre and haven’t read more than halfway through on dozens of books lately so saying I read this all the way through is a good thing and in one reading is a great thing.

I enjoyed this as much as D.A. Roberts’ books which is a huge compliment to this author.

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

I love this story! I thought the daily routine of a park ranger would be a piece of cake. The author proves me wrong.
I laughed so many times and shivered quite a few also. I am glad the scary parts are not any longer than they are.
Get the book, you will love it!

Mr. Kelso does it again! Maximum entertainment points for this one. Horror thriller with short story style chapters busy bodies can appreciate and laughs to boot. The characters all have charm and wit in spades. Tommy!
The thrills come at miles a minute. Parachute vs miffed mistress!
The humor is unapologetic fun. Crotch shots!
What's not to love? I vote for Nessie on the next go around 😎
We need the sequel pronto! Write faster Mr Kelso!

When I first started this book, I was annoyed. I mean how many cryptids can a man run into in a short period of time and was concerned that was the tone of the book….wrong. It turned into a rather interesting story! Despite this ending in a cliffhanger, the author graciously let us peek into book 2. As soon as it’s available, will be getting. Simply put, it’s a fun ride

This book is the perfect mixture of horror and comedy. When a park ranger accidentally stumbles into a cryptid he becomes a bounty hunter like no other. This is a fast paced book that will keep you in the edge of your seat and the pages turning. Well done.

A unique and fun take of the "park ranger who hunts cryptids" theme. Kelso's cryptid hunter, while a park ranger, is far from the straight laced, rule oriented protagonist many have grown used to. In short, this cryptid hunter has all the appearances of an incompetent jerk. Despite this, he winds up being incredibly likable, and somehow always ends up smelling like roses....mixed with a bit of blood. Highly recommended--this novel is incredibly fun and enjoyable.

I knew it was going to be different based on other reviews but at first I thought it was odd/goofy/juvenile maybe? I was so wrong! It quickly picked up and held my interest through the end. I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel. I love the main characters sarcasm and dry sense of humor. Many original cryptids and a unique story line keeps you eager to find out what happens next. I really found this to be highly entertaining and as others have said, fun!
